Infographic: Users Fall Out of Love with Apps

This time of year many of us reflect on how difficult it is to find a mate. It turns out finding an app to fall in love with can be just as difficult. The infographic above visualizes some of the harsh realities of love in the app world.

While the app dating pool is fairly large (there are an estimated 1 million apps on the four major U.S. platforms), the number of people looking for love is relatively small. Only half of all adult cell phone users in the U.S., or 42% of all U.S. adults, have apps installed on their phones, according to a study from the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

Once we find an app worthy of dating, we often don’t find The One.  Of all cell users with apps, Pew reports that only about two-thirds actually use them. Many only open 5 or fewer apps a week.

It turns out breaking up isn’t hard to do after all. Findings point to user fatigue with apps that don’t live up to expectations. It is estimated that 80-90% of apps are eventually deleted, USA Today reported.

With apps clamoring for our attention in the marketplace, it’s easy to get swept up in the fairy tale that our True App Love is out there waiting.  The reality is we probably won’t find one we want to settle down with, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a fling or two.
